Individual Development and Training

***International Trainers confirmed for National Convention 2007 ***

Matt Hutcheon and Lindsey Fair from JCI Canada, and authors of Trucker Management: Driving Your Small Business to Success, will travel from Canada to provide training at JCI Ireland's 2007 Convention. They promise to have participants up and moving, “experiencing” entrepreneurship instead of simply hearing about it. Lessons learned will be applicable to both business endeavors as well as work on JCI projects.

Saturday October 13th - 9:00-10:00
The Birdhouse Business

In one short hour, participants will get to experience all aspects of managing a small business, from budgeting, contingencies, planning, manufacturing/assembly, delegating tasks, marketing & promotions and sales. Working through a complete project from start to finish, and having to deal with forces beyond their control, participants in this session will see immediately the implications of their business decisions and become aware of the broad range of considerations they must always keep in mind in running a small business. As the natural competitive juices get flowing between teams, this program is not only a valuable learning medium, but incredibly entertaining as well!

Saturday October 13th - 10:00-11:00
Assembling Success

Do you have what it takes to lead your team to victory? Successful organizations depend on quick-thinking leaders, an ability to recognize strengths and weaknesses of team members, and plans that allocate resources for maximum efficiency. This fun and fast-paced session has teams competing to design and execute an assembly line, and get quality products to market more quickly than the others while facing unique challenges associated with the abilities of each team member. The lessons illustrated by this exercise can easily be transferred to any type of business, committee or organization. Team leaders will have their decision-making and communication abilities tested in a hectic environment – how will you measure up?

Biography – Matt Hutcheon & Lindsey Fair

Matt Hutcheon and Lindsey Fair have a combined quarter century of entrepreneurial experience. Both are career entrepreneurs who have each founded and partnered in multiple successful small businesses, and consulted, coached or mentored literally hundreds more.

In addition to their business careers, both have demonstrated their entrepreneurial acumen in establishing and growing entrepreneurship-based organizations locally, nationally and internationally. They have delivered their innovative and interactive approach to training the various elements of entrepreneurship to small business owners from around the world.

Lindsey is currently the President of Central Region of JCI Canada, and was the 2005 Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce’s Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Matt served JCI as National President of JCI Canada in 2000, for which he was named Outstanding National President for Area C, and was a JCI Vice President assigned to Europe in 2002, the only Canadian in more than twenty years to serve on the JCI Board of Directors.

Leadership Academy
Friday 31st August to Sunday 2nd September 2007
Total Cost £195

Please find below the flyer for this year’s Leadership Academy. The information can also be found at www.jciedinburgh.org.uk/leadership where applicants can find an application form, flyer, delegate information and a link to the Pre Course Survey on Team Role Preferences. I would appreciate if you could send the information around and encourage members to consider attending the course.

JCI Ireland, JCI Scotland and JCI United Kingdom each have 7 reserved spaces at the academy until 30 June 2007. Please advise me before that date if someone in your branch would like to attend.

The venue is Gartmore House in Aberfoyle which is near Stirling. JCI Scotland members can help arrange transport from Edinburgh/ Glasgow airports to Gartmore House.

Edinburgh has a very large Fireworks display on Sunday evening to celebrate the end of the Fringe Festival which is held during August. If anyone would like to stay in Edinburgh on the Sunday night and come along to the fireworks then let Lesley Fowler (lesley_fowler@ejcc.org.uk) know and she can help to arrange accommodation.

The total cost for the training is £195 and includes 2 nights accommodation, food and training. The Delegate information shows where the cheque should be sent and also gives bank details if members prefer to pay electronically. Please note that payment must be received before we can secure a place on the course and payment must be received at least 7 days before the event. Subsidies will be available from the National Organisation - however the amount many vary depending on numbers that apply.

Having attended Leadership Academy last year, I would strongly recommend it. If any member would like further information please feel free to contact me on 087 - 2971338.

Kind regards,
Órla
