|
Shonagh Daly was born into a musical family from Ballysimon in Limerick `and always loved singing, dancing and being part of a group. She enrolled in a stage school at the age of five and her first public performance was in her school show when she was one of the Von Trapp kids in The Sound of Music. In 2000 after her Leaving Certificate, Shonagh enrolled in a Music Teachers Training Course at Cork School of Music. She auditioned for Andrew Lloyd Webber's West End musical, Beautiful Game, in Cork. Shonagh's big break came when she became the only Irish girl to be chosen to appear in the West End musical. Shonagh has put a lot of hard work and effort into forging her career initially, she was shy performing publicly but performing in school shows proved a real challenge and led to her being more confident. Following the Beautiful Game, she made a demo record in association with Andrew Lloyd Webber, who took her to New York to sing to small groups of influential people. Shonagh shot to prominence in 2002 when, with the support of Andrew Lloyd Webber, she was chosen to perform at the Ground Zero memorial concert in New York, held one year after the September 11th terrorist attacks. Her performance proved a defining moment Shonagh sang a song from the Beautiful Game, Let us Love in Peace, for the ten thousand mourners who were there with pictures of their loved ones. Shonagh has recently performed at a musical evening organised by Andrew Lloyd Webber on the occasion of the visit of President George Bush to London. This event was also attended by Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles. With a style very much her own, and the patronage of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Shonagh is well aware of just how large a leap she has taken in the music business. Andrew Lloyd Webber has said that he wants to make Shonagh a star. He has signed her to his company, secured her a record deal and is currently considering casting Shonagh as Eva Peron in Evita. The past few years has seen a lot of Shonagh's dreams come true. Having achieved her childhood dream of being on stage in the West End, Shonagh now has other dreams in the next five years. She has her sights set on Nashville and Las Vegas, writing songs with some of the great writers and having successful albums. Shonagh may have been a virtual unknown just two years ago but she is now one of the major Irish faces to watch for in 2004. | |
